Small lamps: This particular leaflet shows you the most popular small lamps that are mainly used in indicators and illuminated switches. Regardless of the manufacture of the switch or indicator you will most likely find the suitable signaling-lamp is this brochure. This brochure only shows the most commonly used small lamps and we can also supply most of other specifications even when they are not listed in this leaflet. Quality: small lamps are used for hundreds of different applications each with very specific requirements. Here below we give you some considerations in selecting the correct lamp for your application. Lamp-size: there is a tendency to reduce the size of equipment's and thus also reducing lampsizes. Lohuis has followed this need and is able to supply lamps even with a diameter of 1mm only. Very popular and produced in higher volumes and therefore cheaper are lamps with a T1 size which is 3.17mm in diameter. The international trade uses codes such as T-1 indicating T for tubular-shape and 1 being 1/8 of an inch i.e. 1/8 x 25.4=3.17mm T2 thus stands for a lamp of about 6.34mm in diameter. One has to remember that the smaller the lamp the less power it can have. If you are looking for a powerful lamp giving a lot of light then the size has to be larger and / or life has to be shortened. Lamps with halogens will give much more light even in small sizes. The base: in existing applications you, of course have to select the correct base as otherwise the lamp won't fit your equipment. For new applications very often it is the cheapest to use a lamp without base but just with wire-leads which can be soldered. Lamplife for these types is available upto 100,000 hours and often longer than the life of your equipment. If the lamp has to be replace-able make sure you select a popular base to secure that users can find new lamps in the market without too much difficulty. Life: the quality of a lamp is not determined by its life. Lamps have designed life and give a certain amount of light during their lifetime. In some applications you need a lot of light during a few hours only and in some other you may prefer an almost endless life even with very little luminosity. If you use a 24V lamp at 22V you will improve life with 300% but on the contrary if the 24V lamps is used at 26V the life will be reduced to 40% and you will have 30% more brightness. Filament: always use lamps with extra supports in the filament when your equipment is used with shocks and vibrations. When designing equipment always try to select lamps with the lowest possible voltage and the highest possible wattage since these will be the real robust and long life lamptypes.
