While we have our rooms full of it, how much of our attention and thought goes into our furniture. I mean we do take care of matching our furniture with the interiors and styling of the house, but have you ever considered that a little planning into the furniture of your home can dramatically change the functionality of the mundane pieces and of course not to mention the aesthetics.
Modern furniture changes the way we look at home and office styling. The essential elements of modern furniture creativity, transformability, collapsibility and comfort ability make our space utilization more functional and fun.
While styling home and office interiors, space management has become one of the most critical considerations. Since space is scarce and needs to be utilized at an optimum, modular furniture has lived up to the challenge by not only increasing functionality but also giving a fresh contemporary feel to the aesthetics of modern homes and offices.

Contemporary Furniture Design Award 2009
Unlike previous years, there is no given theme for entries in across all three categories in FDA 2009 - Students, Young Designers and Open. Participants are given free reign with their furniture creations.
Categories
Students Category
Open to full-time students from educational institutions in ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, The Philippines and Vietnam)
Young Designers Category
Open to participants from the Asia Pacific region, aged 35 years and below as of 01 March 2008.
Open Category
Open to participants from all over the world, on a company basis, with entries that have been manufactured and launched commercially in the market.
Judging Criteria
Creativity: 40%
Marketability: 30%
Functionality: 30 % (includes environmental-friendliness, ergonomics and function)

FDA Grand Award: 6.000 Dollars, a trophy and an award certificate
FDA Honorable Mention Award: 1.000 Dollars, a trophy and an award certificate
FDA Merit Awards: A trophy and an award certificate
Open Category

American Hardwood Award: 1.000 Dollars and an award certificate

One winner will be selected from the finalists who have utilised American Hardwood in their entries under the Students, Young Designers and Open Categories.
