Lighting ballast developed by Princeton Technology Corp. is a dimming ballast controller which is available to implement closed loop control of the lamp power. PT5611 has external programmable features, such as preheat time and preheat current, all of them provide a great degree of flexibility for the lighting ballast design engineers. With different connections, PT5611 has the dimming ability with potentiometer or remote controller. And the PT5611 is available in both 16 pin DIP and 16 pin SOP package.
Lighting ballasts are used to operate discharge lights due to the negative resistance which causes the inability to regulate the amount of current passing through. The products can prevent light failure by controlling current flow. Passive components that require no additional power to operate can also be used as ballasts for small lights.
