According to Joel Roseman, president of National Fastener Distributors Association (NFDA), had mentioned in an international conference that the global sales revenue of fasteners will reach around US$ 50 billion in 2010. In addition, according to several statistic data from Fastener World Inc showed that the global fastener market could be approximately divided into five territories, European Union (EU27), North America, Japan, China and other regions, with 15 million tons of output while US$ 40 billion of total amount in 2008. Every market differs from one another when it comes to involving some regional causes on product price and material. However, due to soaring Euro and booming economy during these years, it is expected the demand for fasteners for European Union (EU27) keeps 3% to 5% growth annually. Among it, the market of low-priced fastener products, applying to architecture and household as well as industrial assembly, should still have space to develop.
Presently, fastener manufacturers in Europe such as Germany, Italy, UK and Span still focus on automobile market. On the other hand, fastener manufacturers still have room for development on East Europe in the future.
As a matter of fact, Taiwan fasteners meet all requirements of importers from European countries in every aspect. Nevertheless, most of fastener distributors care more on product price besides quality. However, today I would like to bring up a concept─does low price means everything? Could it create higher margin of profit? Even though every major international conference encourages a lot in "Do not stick at brutal price battle, instead, quality is what we should concentrate on." On the contrary, low-priced fastener product still is a myth for many distributors. I believe that most people do not agree with the perspective of "price is everything." Concerning about competitiveness, price can't be the only evaluating point, but concentrating on every factors to estimate, such as steady supply of goods, quick and on-time delivery, quality that meets customer's requirement, technical support, after-sales services provided by manufacturers or distributors and familiarity with the market you are.
Taiwan fastener industry has gone through the low-priced trial against China in the past years. For this moment, Taiwan is on the harvest stage by industry upgrade and transformation. In addition, Taiwan fastener industry has brought her mobility into full play on this wave of trial. Around 200 Taiwan manufacturers moved their factories one after another to China and to Southeast countries in the past decade. They used the resources of labor and land well in China and Southeast regions in providing cheap and fine products to foreign customers to create more competitiveness for their customers. Last but not least, the characteristics of Taiwan fastener industry─"customization" and "exquisite and various"─which are not allowed to be overlooked.
