Artistic attractions for the eye

Up to the end of March 2008 the Museum Ludwig is presenting one of the world's largest and most significant Mondrian collections. The exhibition traces the path of the artist from his impressionist and cubist beginnings up to neo-plasticism. From the 1920s onwards Piet Mondrian adopted a completely abstract approach in his characteristic geometric style, with its optically balanced compositions in red, yellow and blue rectangles in a system of black lines and white spaces. These creations have firmly established themselves in the collective memory of images, not least because they are also always being repeatedly featured in commercials.
