HANNOVER

CeBIT leads events for the digital world. This year CeBIT will hold the trade fair on 15th to 21st of March. The display category 'Telematics & Navigation' in Hall 11 has been substantially enlarged for 2007. More than 200 exhibiting companies and institutions will be presenting their products and services on a combined display area of some 8,000 square meters. Among the big names exhibiting at the show are Blaupunkt, Falk Marco Polo, Garmin Europe, GPS-Buddy, Harman/Becker, Magellan, Map & Guide, Mio, Navigon, Navman, Navteq Europe, PTV, Route 66, TeleAtlas, Tom Tom, Trimble and Via Michelin.

CeBIT is the only trade fair in the world where telematics and navigation receive such comprehensive coverage. Each stage in the telematics process chain is fully explored - from the acquisition and processing of data, via the gathering and transmission of traffic information, to the visual presentation of information on the display of the end-user device. A traffic jam on the motorway, for example, is detected, and its location pinpointed, via GPS, video sensor or detector. The information is received at a traffic management center and processed by a content provider. Additional information is then fed into the mix, and finally relayed to the onboard navigation device via a GPRS or UMTS network operated by a service provider.

There will also be coverage of new developments in the European satellite navigation project GALILEO. The project is featured for the first time at the group presentation 'GNSS Community' (Global Navigation Satellite System), with an international line-up of exhibitors taking part.

The special display 'ICT in Motion' is back again this year, with information on all aspects of traffic telematics, accompanied by the lecture forum 'CeBIT in Motion'. For CeBIT 2007 the forum is hosting talks on a different pair of themes for each day of the show. The forum is co-sponsored by industry federations BITKOM (German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media, Berlin) and ZVEI (German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association, Frankfurt) - representing Germany's ICT and electrical/electronics industries respectively - as well as by the Regional Telematics Initiative of the host state Lower Saxony.

The whole subject of 'Telematics & Navigation' also ranks high on the list of visitor priorities. In a survey conducted at CeBIT 2006, more than 82,000 said that this display category would be of special interest to them in the future.
